I was born and raised in rural Alabama. Upon graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, I went to the University of Alabama for a master's degree in English Renaissance literature. Then I taught in Cameroon as a Peace Corps volunteer.
After moving to New York City to teach in its public schools for seven years, I stayed here to earn an MFA from New York University. Now I tutor, teach adults ESL, and work at a college writing center.
I recently moved to Brighton Beach from Spanish Harlem.
